Celebrations

In our NJ house we are HUGE fans of celebrating.  Celebrating everything and anything; anniversaries, birthdays, Christmas, the random great day Tuesday.  You name it and we’ll celebrate it.

In less then three months there will be a pretty substantial celebration.  I have already started planning and I know exactly what type of party we are going to host for our little lady.  I’m not going to spoil the surprise just yet, but I will give some hints.

Or more like one hint, I plan on attempting to make E her very own personalized smash cake.  I want to make her a teacup cake.  I’ve sent some emails to a very amazing blogging cake artist friend of mine {Kathia owner of Pink Little Cake in NJ}.  You should really check out her work, it’s incredibly stellar.

She assures me that it won’t be that hard, but I’m still a little skeptical.  Here is my number one inspiration photo, courtesy of CakeLove.

I highly doubt that mine will look anything like this at all.  I'm pretty OK with royal icing, but I've only ever used fondant once.  I imagine I'll need Kathia on speed email the entire time!

So I'm either going to create a fabulous little cake {for the entire purpose of E to smash in her face, yes I fully understand and accept this point}, or I'm going to end up on cakewrecks!

Have you figured out the "theme"?  Care to wager a guess?

I'm going to go with Alice in Wonderland?

Can't wait to see how your cake turns out!

Adorable! Can't wait to see what theme you chose. We love celebrations too! I'm in the middle of planning X's third birthday and am so excited for the theme. Pinterest has been soooo helpful in planning this year! I'm looking forward to planning N's too. Thankfully I have 2 months in between the two birthdays.

I'm thinking Alice in Wonderland too. My sister recently had a full AIW themed baby shower. My sister works for Disney and borrowed one of the duplicate gowns for the Red Queen and my other sister dressed up as the Queen and sat at the head of the table. It was quite fantastic. The only downside is it was incredibly hot in Pasadena (near Los Angeles) that day and the tea was outside. It was just a few months ago so we expected fall weather. Ha! It was close to 100 degrees outside. So our "tea" quickly became iced tea served in tea cups.

Precious! I've used fondant once. I made my 5-yo a Barbie-doll cake on her last birthday, and I used the fondant for the gown. It came out pretty nice; but then again, I didn't have to shape the fondant or anything complicated like that. All I really did was drape it over the cake "gown".

The fondant wasn't too hard to work with, but I really hated the taste of it...and so did everybody else! It peeled off easily enough, and it kept the cake tasting nice and fresh until we ate it all.

Good luck!
