E has been all about feeding herself
recently. I’m a huge ball of nerves as she’s shoving handfuls of poofies in her
mouth.
In the attempt to get her to eat healthy and
to introduce her to as many foods and textures as possible I started turning
everything into “fries”.
Below are zucchini and sweet potato fries.
Both are huge hits in our house.
Now that we’ve added lunch into her solid feeding regimen, we
are letting dinner be more of an experiment in self feeding.
To make baby feeding friendly fries I wash and peel the veggie
{or fruit} in question, and then cut into finger shaped sizes. {my finger size,
not hers}
I lay out all of the “fries” on a piece of aluminum foil on top
of a cookie sheet. Next I brush olive oil on all of the fries. Finally I top
with seasoning. {Just because the food is for a baby does not mean that it has
to be bland! I spice or season all of E’s food}
On the fries below I used Italian seasoning and a dash of
parmesan cheese.
Roast in a 400 degree oven for 10-20 minutes. {Cooking
time really depends on the food, the zucchini was done around 10, but the sweet
potatoes took around the whole 20}
Here are some other options for “fries”:
- apples
- eggplant
- regular spuds
- squash
- pears
- beets
What have you tried or do you suggest I try? I’m always looking
for more finger food options for E.

Found you on bloggy mom. These look great! I am going to have to try them! Look forward to getting to know you :) -Kim

I've never thought about making zucchini, pear or apple fries! I bet my toddler would love these! Thanks!
Im going to have to give these a try
I used to be on the bump, and that's how I found your blog! My daughter is two weeks yonger than E and is also all about feeding herself. My question is, how well do these fries keep and how do you store them? Obviously the baby won't eat all those fries at once, so do you freeze them and reheat later or what? Thanks for the help!
